The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced this past week that the Hokies are set to take part in a new early season event when college basketball returns. Tech will be one of six teams in the inaugural Hall of Fame Shootout on November 13th. The event will be held in Spectrum Arena in Charlotte, NC and feature a triple-header.
The schedule includes:
- Virginia Tech vs. Davidson
- Virginia vs. Temple
- East Carolina vs. Liberty
This will be the first time the Hokies have taken on Davidson since 1971. Which is quite surprising given their proximity and amount of non-conference games that fill the schedule each year. Tech leads the all-time series between the two schools 20-19.
After making the NCAA Tournament in 2018, Davidson just missed the cut in 2019, finishing second the A-10. Then the Wildcats fell into the middle of the A-10 last season, going 16-14 overall. They should retain their top scorer Kellan Grady, who will be a senior next season, but will miss their big man Jón Axel Guðmundsson, who led the team in rebounds and assists, and was second in scoring.
The event, and game against Davidson, is the school’s first official announcement regarding next season’s schedule. The planned ACC schedule features home-and-away series with UVA, Miami, Clemson, Boston College, Duke and Syracuse, with the remaining schools having just one appearance on the schedule.
