At 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, Etute has terrific size. He is a really good athlete who is just now growing into his body. Over the last several months, Etute has not only gained weight/muscle, but has also grown a couple of inches, too.
It certainly helped in his recruitment.
The Hokies didn’t offer Etute until June, however, had been monitoring him for some time. Once VT offered, Etute’s mind was set on the Hokies. West Virginia and N.C. State were his other finalists.
Overall, Etute had 12 offers, but is a player who is trending in the right direction. Etute’s speed and athleticism jumps out on film. He is also a physical player. Once he gets to Blacksburg and cleans up on some tackling techniques, he has a chance to be a really good player for defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton and the Hokies.
Etute plays high school football at Cox High in Virginia Beach. He becomes commitment No. 13 for this class, and is now the fifth player from the state of Virginia to commit in this class. The Hokies have clearly prioritized repairing some relationships within the state while also building new ones.
Etute, much like Keli Lawson, is a player who was hurt by the current pandemic. With their combination of size and athleticism, both would have likely seen more offers. These are great offers by the Hokies and both have a chance to be really good once they arrive in Blacksburg.
Despite Etute’s commitment, Virginia Tech still sits at No. 48 in 247Sports composite team rankings for 2021.
