Thomas, a 6-foot-0, 180-pound back from Hart County High in Hartwell, Ga., picked the Hokies out of his 17 offers. He also plans to play baseball once he arrives in Blacksburg.
Thomas brings speed to the running back position. He joins Chance Black as the second back in Tech’s 2021 class. Both are versatile enough to not only play running back, but slot receiver as well. Black is more likely to be moved around than Thomas, though.
The Hokies offered Thomas in May and he did a virtual visit and has built a strong relationship with some of Virginia Tech’s coaches.
Thomas possesses excellent speed and had a strong junior season. He is another player who would have benefitted from visits and camps throughout the spring and summer. And, with high school football in question this fall, Thomas’ offer list may not grow as previously anticipated.
Thomas is commitment No. 15 in VT’s 2021 class.
His primary recruiters were running back coach Adam Lechtenberg and offensive line coach Vance Vice.
