The Virginia Tech Hokies picked up a big commitment on Saturday when four-star cornerback DJ Harvey picked the good guys.
Harvey is the third cornerback commitment for the 2021 class, joining Nykelius Johnson and Shawn Asbury II.
A 5-foot-11, 166-pounder from Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth, Calif., Harvey was Virginia Tech’s top target at corner. This was a big get for defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton and new cornerbacks coach Ryan Smith.
Harvey is the No. 382 player overall for the class of 2021 per the 247Sports composite, however, using just the rankings at 247Sports, Harvey is a four-star recruit and ranked No. 246 overall and the No. 18 cornerback in the country.
Harvey is a really good athlete who can play corner or wide receiver at the next level. He has the quickness and athleticism to do either. He will likely play corner for the Hokies as that will be where he is needed. In watching him on film, Harvey has required necessary physicality to line up at corner in Virginia Tech’s defense. He likes contact.
To get a good player from the state of California is excellent for this coaching staff. This has been a strange cycle and after a much-criticized 2020 class, head coach Justin Fuente needs to start reeling in some bigger players for this class. Harvey is a fantastic addition.
The Hokies could be adding more talent soon with decisions expected before the season from some of their top targets.
