This is one of our suggested changes to the staff, and very much solidifies the defensive coaching positions. If the names and faces are seeming to be very familiar, the reality is that this staff looks absolutely dedicated to hiring the best Hokies available to fill assistant coaching positions.
For those of you unfamiliar with Jack Tyler’s tenure at Virginia Tech, the Oakton High School graduate walked on, and earned his way into the starting lineup during the final hay day years of the Beamer Era. Tyler was a key part of one of the best defenses in the nation for nearly the entire time that he was playing, and was coached directly by Bud Foster.
This means that Virginia Tech football is currently employing seven former Hokies as coaches and Justin Fuente’s support staff; Justin Hamilton (DC and Safeties) and Darryl Tapp (Co-Defensive Line Coach), Pierson Prioleau (Director of Player Development for the Defense), Corey Fuller (Assistant Director of Player Personnel), Jeron Gouveia-Winslow (Assistant Director of Player Personnel), and Ryan Shuman (Director of Football Strength and Conditioning).
When old players are coming back to coach, something must be going on. On thing for sure, is someone, somewhere has watermarked Jack Tyler’s resume with a ghost image of Bud. We are going to see more of him in the future.
