Things have been quiet on the recruiting front recently for the Virginia Tech Hokies after a hot summer. That changed on Thursday afternoon when three-star defensive tackle Malachi Madison made his college choice — and he picked the good guys.
The 6-3, 310-pound defensive tackle from Thomas Dale High School in Chester, Virginia, has liked the Hokies for a while. However, it appeared he was heading to UCF before realizing Virginia Tech was the place for him.

“I decided to commit to Virginia Tech,” he told Brian Dohn of 247Sports. “I love the area. It was like family when I went down there. It’s the bond I have the recruits going there.”
There are a number of connections that drew Madison to Virginia Tech, namely his relationships with a pair of current Hokie commitments, running back Ramon Brown and defensive end Rashaud Pernell.
Madison reported 29 offers and Mississippi State and the aforementioned UCF were his other finalists.
This is another great pickup for the Hokies. Madison already possesses great size and can play early in his college career. In addition to his size, the Hokies picked up another good player from inside the state of Virginia. You never discount how important that is.
The Hokies now have 23 commitments for the class of 2022, which ranks No. 19 in the 247Sports composite team rankings.
Welcome to Blacksburg, Malachi.
