Former Virginia Tech running back Khalil Herbert started his second NFL game on Sunday for the Chicago Bears. And, for the second consecutive week, Herbert was Chicago’s best offensive player.
While the Buccaneers blew out the Bears, 38-3, Herbert carried the football 18 times and rushed for 100 yards. Herbert, of course, rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown in his starting debut last week.
So, over the last three weeks, Herbert is No. 3 in the NFL in rushing yards. He’s behind only Derrick Henry and Jonathan Taylor. He also became the first player to rush for 100 yards against the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers.
Over last 3 games, #Bears rookie Khalil Herbert's 272 yards rushing are third in NFL behind only Titans' Derrick Henry (359) and Colts' Jonathan Taylor (305). https://t.co/PRGab3IAsg

Herbert, who is playing in place of the injured David Montgomery, has stated his case for more time once Montgomery returns to the lineup. With rookie Justin Fields at quarterback, Chicago’s offense is struggling right now. However, Herbert, a sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft after a standout season for the Hokies in 2020, is proving to be a draft-day steal.
