The Virginia Tech Hokies knew they were opening the 2021 college football season in Lane Stadium against the North Carolina Tar Heels. They just didn’t know if it was going to be on Thursday or Friday.
Now, the wait is over. The Hokies and the Tar Heels will open the 2021 season on Friday night, Sept. 3, in Lane Stadium.
While the TV network and time will be announced later, we can only presume the game will be under the lights.
What’s your take, Hokies?
The first thing on my mind is the last time the Hokies played on Friday night in Lane Stadium. That was in 2019 when Duke gave the the Hokies their worst home loss in over 45 years.
Ok, let’s hope that doesn’t happen again. Let’s also hope Lane Stadium is packed. These players deserve a full house after the debacle that was 2020.
UNC should be good again in 2021. The Heels return quarterback Sam Howell, who should be one of the top quarterbacks in the country. However, UNC is losing several quality offensive starters so the Hokies may be catching them at the perfect time.
