The Virginia Tech Hokies expect to field a good basketball team again in 2021-22. Despite losing guards Jalen Cone and Joe Bamisile, Virginia Tech returns virtually everyone else. Add in transfers Storm Murphy and Michael Durr, the Hokies will be deep, talented and experienced next winter.
So, it’s no surprise the college basketball world is taking notice. The preseason NIT has selected four teams to headline its annual November tournament in New York and the Hokies are one of the those four teams.
Joining Virginia Tech is Iowa State, Memphis and Xavier. While that’s some pretty solid company, the Hokies are the best of that bunch.
Could the Hokies have a reunion with Landers Nolley in the preseason NIT? That would be intriguing. Memphis actually just won the 2020-21 postseason NIT.
The preseason NIT will tip off on Nov. 24 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and wraps up on Nov. 26.
This is another nod of respect to Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young and his program.
Sources: Xavier, Memphis, Virginia Tech, and Iowa State will headline the 2021 Preseason NIT.
