When former Wofford point guard Storm Murphy announced his intentions to transfer to Virginia Tech last month, Hokie fans immediately started researching Murphy.
A quick search on the web and you’ll probably find Murphy for a different reason. A video he made with parents on Thanksgiving, which is highly entertaining and shows Murphy has talent that extends beyond the basketball court.
But, Murphy was an accomplished guard at Wofford and was recruited there by current Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young. In his final season with the Terriers, Murphy averaged 17.8 points per game and shot 40% from the 3-point line.
This was a huge addition for next season for Young.
This week, Virginia Tech officially welcomed Murphy to Blacksburg.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to reunite with Storm both as a player and as a person,” Young said. “Storm fits exactly what Hokie Basketball is all about. He is a great kid from a great family, and I know he is more than prepared for the challenge of competing in the ACC and beyond.”
Murphy responded.

Murphy will move right into Virginia Tech’s starting lineup in 2021-22 and be an immediate improvement.
