Tyree Rodgers committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies all the way back in 2016, as a part of Justin Fuente’s first recruiting class.
On Thursday, Rodgers entered the NCAA transfer portal.
During his time at Virginia Tech, Rodgers appeared in 32 games for the Hokies, making three starts. He finished his career with 21 tackles, including 1.5 for loss and also forced a fumble.
Most of his playing time occurred in 2018.
A former three-star recruit from New Jersey, Rodgers opted out of the 2020 college football season after just three games to focus on academics.
While losing Rodgers costs the Hokies a veteran presence in the secondary, he wasn’t likely to play a lot in 2021. The Hokies have several young players at safety, in addition to a pair of transfers in Devin Taylor and Tae Daley who are expected to start. Taylor is entering his second year in the program.
We wish Tyree nothing but the best in the future.
I can confirm the #Hokies DB Tyree Rodgers has put his name in the transfer portal. A reserve safety who spent much of last year focusing on academics, Rodgers played in 32 games and had 21 tackles (almost all of which were in 2018) with Virginia Tech.
