Virginia Tech v Miami

Freshman outfielder Carson Jones went three of six from the plate and drove in five runs in Virginia Tech’s 16-5 win over Toledo in Blacksburg on Sunday. The win capped off a three-game sweep by the Hokies — their fourth win in a row.

Sophomore third baseman Kevin Madden also knocked in three runs for the Hokies. Madden went three of three from the plate and reached base four times. Senior left fielder Tanner Thomas reached base four times, scored four runs and drove in two for the Hokies.

Sophomore left-hander Chris Gerard got the start for Tech and went two innings, striking out four without allowing a run. Junior left-hander Shane Connolly went three innings for the Hokies, striking out three and allowing only one hit, in picking up for VT.

The Hokies were scheduled for a game against Liberty on Wednesday, but it was canceled. So now, Tech returns to the diamond on Friday, May 14, in Durham against the Duke Blue Devils in a three-game series.

The Hokies then return home the following Thursday to host Notre Dame in a series that will complete the regular season.

At 16-14 in the ACC, the Hokies need a strong finish to the regular season as big things could await Tech in June.
