The Virginia Tech Hokies got their third weekend of official visits this month off to a good start on Saturday when three-star tight end Matt Hoffman pledged to the Hokies.
Hoffman is a 6-foot-4, 215-pounder from Cheltenham High in Wyncote, Pennsylvania. He picked up his offer from the Hokies this week after he camped in Blacksburg. He is the second tight-end commitment in the 2022 recruiting class, following Harrison Saint Germain, who committed to Tech in February.
There isn’t a lot of film on Hoffman, but the word is he’s fairly new to the position. He apparently ran well at the camp, impressing head coach Justin Fuente.

The hope is Hoffman is an under-the-radar prospect who is a late-bloomer in the recruiting world. He has a great frame to which he can add weight.
Hoffman spoke to Evan Watkins of 247Sports after his commitment to the Hokies.
“It was a special place to me,” Hoffman said after committing. “I love school and how supportive they are of the athletes. I love the team and how they use their tight ends. It was definitely the right place for me.”
If this is a good evaluation, then there will be a long way to go to keep Hoffman in the fold. His Twitter profile says he plays linebacker and long snapper, too.
Welcome to Blacksburg, Matt.
