A good day for the Virginia Tech Hokies got even better on Saturday when four-star linebacker Xavier Simmons announced he was committed to the Hokies.
Simmons follows Matt Hoffman, who committed to the Hokies earlier in the day on Saturday. He is the ninth commitment in Virginia Tech’s 2022 class, currently sitting at No. 30 nationally. Simmons plays high school football at Northwest Guilford High in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Simmons plays inside linebacker and is currently listed at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, which is terrific size at linebacker. When was the last time the Hokies had the kind of size in the middle?
Simmons picked the Hokies over offers from North Carolina, NC State, Duke and others.
Want to thank my family, coaches, teachers and teammates who have helped me along the way!! With that being said I am blessed and thankful to say I am committed to @HokiesFB ❗️❗️#GoHokies @CoachFuente @JackInTheBox58 pic.twitter.com/UMhsT2dVe6

“Want to thank my family, coaches, teachers, and teammates who have helped me along the way,” Simmons tweeted. “With that being said, I am blessed and thankful to say I am committed to @HokiesFB.”
This is a big get for the Hokies. Simmons is a good prospect who is ranked as a four-star prospect by the industry leader, 247Sports.
Simmons officially visited Virginia Tech two weeks ago and didn’t wait long to go ahead and jump in the 2022 recruiting class.
Simmons is a good athlete with good size. His size indicates he could grow into a defensive end, but it appears he will play inside at the next level. A middle linebacker with his combination of size and athleticism could be special in defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton’s system.
Welcome to Blacksburg, Xavier.
