Virginia Tech football: A busy recruiting weekend in Blacksburg

This is an important weekend for Virginia Tech’s coaching staff.

The month of June is a big one for the Virginia Tech Hokies. The NCAA lifted the recruiting dead period on June 1, and Tech’s recruiting staff planned a big month for recruits.

Throughout the week, the Hokies have hosted multiple players on official and unofficial visits. Some players have even scheduled multiple visits, which, in theory, would have to be considered a positive development. Tech’s recruiting staff worked to plan a fun weekend for all of the visitors.

One of the official visitors is a longtime target, offensive tackle Gunner Givens, from nearby Lord Botetourt High School. Givens confirmed the news of his official visit via Twitter — his second visit of the week.

Another visitor is three-star defensive lineman Rashaud Pernell from Highland Springs, Virginia. If you’ve followed high school football in the Commonwealth recently, you’d know the Springers are arguably the best program in the state right now — coached by former Hokie cornerback Loren Johnson. Pernell is another top target, and this is also his second visit of the week.

These are just two of several important visitors on campus for Virginia Tech this weekend. This is arguably the biggest recruiting month of head coach Justin Fuente’s tenure since being hired late in 2015.

Now, let’s hope the Hokies can close on some of their top targets this weekend.
