Virginia Tech recruiting: Promising defensive end commits to the Hokies

The Hokies start off July with a bang.

The Virginia Tech Hokies stayed hot on the recruiting trail Thursday after three-star defensive end Kyree Moyston announced he was a Hokie. Moyston’s addition allows Virginia Tech to start July on a positive note.

Moyston is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive lineman from King’s Fork High School in Suffolk. He is the cousin of fellow 2022 commit Lemar Law.

Moyston had developed a strong rapport with former co-defensive line coach Darryl Tapp before he left for the NFL. Tapp’s replacement, J.C. Price, picked right up where Tapp left off in Moyston’s recruitment.

“That’s my guy,” Moyston said, per Evan Watkins of 247Sports. He is a cool coach.”

The Hokies have a lot of prospects I really like in this class already. Moyston may be my favorite yet. I love what the coaching staff is doing on the offensive and defensive lines, and Moyston is the latest addition.

He has good size and athleticism and also a big frame that can add weight. He fits the profile of what Justin Hamilton is looking for in his defensive linemen. I was really happy to see the Hokies get this one done. I believe Moyston should be rated higher, and perhaps that will happen once he plays his senior season.

Moyston has some impressive offers, including recent ones from Michigan State and Washington this year.

Welcome to Blacksburg, Kyree.
