The 2021 college football season is less than two months away. Fall camp begins in less than a month. Now, some of the different conferences are lining up preseason events, such as the ACC Football Kickoff, held annually in North Carolina.

The ACC Football Kickoff will occur on Wednesday, July 21, at the Westin Hotel in downtown Charlotte.

Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente will represent the Hokies along with three players. Quarterback Braxton Burmeister, defensive back Chamarri Conner and tight end James Mitchell will join Fuente in Charlotte.

The 2021 season will be Fuente’s sixth at Virginia Tech, where he has compiled a 38-26 record.

Burmeister is a senior quarterback from La Jolla, California, who was 3-1 as the starter last season. He spent his first two seasons at Oregon before transferring to Virginia Tech. He is the unquestioned starter heading into 2021.

Conner is a senior from Jacksonville, Florida, who has played in 37 career games for the Hokies. Since his sophomore season, he has been a fixture in the starting lineup and earned All-ACC honorable mention in 2020. He was a two-time ACC defensive back of the week last season.

Mitchell is a 6-foot-3, 242-pound senior from Big Stone Gap who has played in 36 career games for Tech. He has scored a total of 11 touchdowns, including five rushing scores, showing his versatility. Mitchell is a potential All-American if he can get enough looks in the passing game.

The Hokies open the 2021 season on Friday, Sept. 3, in Blacksburg against North Carolina. The game will be televised on ESPN.
