Another day, another Virginia Tech commitment. On Saturday, it was wide receiver Tucker Holloway. When the clock struck midnight, three-star defensive lineman Rashaud Pernell announced he was committing to Virginia Tech.

Pernell is a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive lineman from Highland Springs High School. The Hokies are not only getting a good player in Pernell but are working to get back into one of the best programs in the state.

Highland Springs is coached by former Virginia Tech defensive back Loren Johnson and seemingly sends players to FBS schools on an annual basis. Just last year, two Highland Springs stars signed with the Oklahoma Sooners.

Pernell spoke with Evan Watkins of 247Sports about why he chose the Hokies:

“Just the constant love from day one,” Pernell said. “The chance to play in state, I couldn’t miss out.”

He becomes the 16th commitment for Virginia Tech in the 2022 recruiting class and fifth from the state of Virginia. The Hokies hope to close out this class with a few more targets from the Commonwealth.

Highland Springs was once good to Virginia Tech. Macho Harris is the most notable former Hokie from Highland Springs. Other former Hokies from Highland Springs are Antoine and Derrick Hopkins, Jim Davis and Noland Burchette. That’s a pretty impressive group, especially along the defensive line.

Welcome to Blacksburg, Rashaud.
