You know college football is right around the corner when Phil Steele’s annual magazine graces your mailbox. Not long after Steele’s magazine hit the newsstands, he begins making the media rounds, and recently, he discussed the ACC.
Steele went over his ACC power rankings for each division, and, to no one’s surprise, Clemson was atop the Atlantic Division. And, to the chagrin of Virginia Tech fans, Steele has North Carolina as the top team in the Coastal.
So, where does Steele see the Hokies?
Steele sees the Hokies in a third-place tie with Pittsburgh in the ACC Coastal. He predicts Miami will come in second behind UNC.
The Hokies have a huge opportunity to get off to a big start opening the season with the Tar Heels in Blacksburg on a Friday night. With Lane Stadium full for the first time in around 22 months, the atmosphere should be electric.
If Tech can open the season with a win over North Carolina, the narrative surrounding the team could change in a hurry.
