Mike Young and the Virginia Tech basketball team picked up a big commitment on Sunday when 7-foot center Patrick Wessler announced on Twitter he was committing to the Hokies.
“Excited to announce that I have committed to @HokiesMBB to further my basketball and academic pursuits,” Wessler tweeted. “Appreciate @CoachMKYoung and the rest of the Hokie staff for the great weekend. Let’s go Hokies!”

Wessler is a 7-foot-0, 235-pound center from Charlotte who plays for the Combine Academy. He had offers from Ole Miss, N.C. State, Providence, USC, Iowa and Ohio State, among other schools.
He is the second commit for the 2022 class, joining guard MJ Collins of Rock Hill, South Carolina, who picked the Hokies earlier this year.
Wessler is considered the No. 187 prospect overall in the 2022 class. According to 247Sports, he is the No. 4 player in North Carolina for 2022, and the No. 22 center nationally.
I love this commitment. You can’t teach size. It gives Wessler a real opportunity to play early in his career at Virginia Tech.
We hope to have more good news on the recruiting front soon.
Welcome to Blacksburg, Patrick.
