The Virginia Tech Hokies learned of their bowl destination on Sunday evening. The Hokies will be making their third appearance in the Military Bowl. This time, Virginia Tech will face AAC co-regular-season champion Tulane (11-2). Over the weekend, the Green Wave lost to future ACC member SMU in the AAC title game.
The game will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 27, from Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis, Md.
The Hokies’ previous two appearances in the Military Bowl were in 2014 and 2018. Both games were against Cincinnati, with VT winning in 2014 and Cincinnati winning in 2018.
The Hokies earned a bowl bid with their blowout win over Virginia in the regular-season finale last week. It was an excellent turnaround for head coach Brent Pry in his second season after VT began the season 1-3.
Virginia Tech will face a formidable Tulane team. Last season, the Green Wave won the AAC and defeated Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans in the Cotton Bowl. Of course, Tulane will face the Hokies with an interim head coach as Willie Fritz has been announced as the new coach of the Houston Cougars.
Fritz led an impressive turnaround of the Tulane program over the last two seasons.
The ACC’s bowl situation became a bit more complicated earlier Sunday when undefeated ACC champion Florida State was somehow left out of the College Football Playoff in favor of one-loss Alabama.
We’ll have more on Tulane over the next few weeks.
